Biography
Born and raised in New Orleans, Marcel received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the USC Glorya Kaufman School of Dance with a concentration in Choreography for Stage and Cinematic Arts. During his time in the program, he studied under pioneers such as William Forsythe and Kyle Abraham and had the pleasure to perform works by Jiří Kylián, Hope Boykin, Justin Peck, Dwight Rhoden, Tyce Diorio, and Bret Easterling. He has also performed and collaborated with renowned dance companies like A.I.M. by Kyle Abraham and Doug Varone and Dancers.
Upon graduating, Marcel joined Les Ballets Jazz de Montreal in 2024 under the direction of Alexandra Damiani. Here, he performed repertoire by Crystal Pite, Aszure Barton, Andonis Foniadakis, Ihsan Rustem, and Annabelle Lopez Ochoa.
As a freelance artist, Marcel has performed and collaborated on several commercial projects such as skeleton crew for Achinta McDaniel's choreography featured on So You Think You Can Dance and the Robin Hood Foundation gala performance produced by Natalie Galazka. He has also performed works by contemporary dance artists like Talia Favia and Luca-Andrea Lino Tessarini.
Drawing from many influences like film, poetry, and acting, Marcel is interested in building bodies of work that are not only centered on collaboration but also the exploration of what it means to be a hybrid artist. Recently, Marcel has debuted various choreographic works at renowned institutions such as Les Ballets Jazz de Montreal, the Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in London, and the Glorya Kaufman School of Dance at USC.
Connected to his fascination with dance costuming and filmmaking, Marcel has also modeled briefly in Montreal and will be continuing to expand his portfolio in the years to come.
